Improving Livelihoods
Through facilitating training in marketable skills, economic empowerment for women and improving household nutrition, CHADET is making efforts to reduce the vulnerabilities of children to different forms of challenges in their lives and in their transitions into adulthood.
Marketable Skills Training
Providing marginalized youth with practical vocational skills required by the modern job market.
Tailor-Made Programs
CHADET has developed and implemented tailor-made short term training programs for marginalized and unemployed young people through arrangements with Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVETs).
In collaboration with the Addis Ababa TVET Agency, we contributed to curricula for automotive painting, plumbing, gypsum work, hair dressing, leather processing, and metal work. We've also developed specific modules for masonry, carpentry, bar bending, and leather works.
Job Readiness & Apprenticeship
Training is accompanied by apprenticeship programs, life skills coaching, and work ethics education. All trainees undergo competency examination for government accreditation. CHADET previously ran its own Skills Training Center for at-risk girls, offering courses in food preparation, housekeeping, and child care to prevent exploitation.
Economic Empowerment
Strengthening income capacities to ensure gender equality and sustainable livelihoods.
Women's Empowerment
We assist girls and women to earn sustainable income through Basic Business Skills (BBS) training and start-up provision. Participants organize into Saving and Credit Cooperatives (SaCCOs) on a voluntary basis.
21 SaCCOs and 200 Self Help Groups established with over 2,000 members.
Business Start-ups
We provide seed money to accelerate existing income-generating activities. Selection is based on business plan viability, performance, and consultation with participants. Support varies based on capacity, skills, and own contributions.
Public Private Partnerships
Collaborating with industry leaders like the Leather Institute and Metals Industry Development Institute to create digital job centers and employment opportunities.
Agribusiness Incubation Hubs
Promoting agri-businesses plays a crucial role in lifting rural women out of poverty. To address constraints like poor access to finance and skills, CHADET adopted an incubation model supported by the African Agri-business Incubators Network (AAIN).
This model promotes innovation and improves technology transfer across our intervention areas.
Wonchi Woreda Hub (Oromia)
Supports over 1,200 women in vegetable/fruit production. Provides cold storage, processing training, and irrigation support.
Artuma Fursi Hub (Amhara)
Focuses on poultry value chains, fishery, and horticulture. Provides mentorship, market linkages, and financial access.
Household Nutrition
We address food insecurity by empowering families to produce their own food. CHADET provides technical support and materials to diversify food sources through home-grown vegetables and fruits.
